PETER TOSH’S NO NUCLEAR WAR SONG CALLS FOR WORLD PEACE

A world-class musician whose 'No Nuclear War' album escaped international recognition

Winston Hubert McIntosh, popularly known as Peter Tosh, was a renowned reggae artist and one of the founding members of the band the Wailers, together with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer.

Some of these great musicians behind the contemporary reggae music are not living today, yet Tosh's message of peace internationally, giving hope, comfort, healing, and efforts to prevent nuclear war through his music can't be easily forgotten.

The incredible power and force of Peter Tosh's music played a significant role in dismantling the oppressed regime of Apartheid in South Africa. Like Peter Tosh, many of such musicians whose music brought comfort to the suffering masses are forgotten today.

While many are living in fear over the threat of nuclear war, following the high tension between the US government and the North Korea, it worth to bring the cautioning lyrics of Peter Tosh's 'No Nuclear War' song to the world's attention.

Tosh sang "We don't want no nuclear war,

With nuclear war, we won't get far.
I said that we don't want no nuclear war,
With nuclear war, we won't get far.

I said no, just another holocaust, yea-ah!
Holocaust! It's just another holocaust,
And we can't take no more.
We can't take it no more.
We can't take it no more.

Too many people are hungry,
They don't have food to eat.
They are naked,
'Cause they don't have clothes to wear.
They're going insane,
Because of the conditions.
Over a million young babies,
Are suffering from malnutrition.

And I say that we don't want no nuclear war,
With nuclear war, we won't get far.
No, I said that we don't want no nuclear war,
With a nuclear war, we won't get far.

I said no, just another holocaust, yea-ah!
Another holocaust! Can we take another holocaust?
I can't take no more.
Said I can't take no, no more.
I can't take no more.

I saw World War I where lots of trouble began.

I saw World War II when the pirates came right through.
Looking for world war III but you got to set me free,
Free from the chains and this ya misery!

The death of a reggae Icon

Many argue that Peter Tosh wasn't a man of peace but a revolutionary but that's not the case. He fought against global injustice. He was a stepping razor but he didn't hurt no one, rather the law which has to protect, hurt and brutalized him.

The life of the international music star was taken by gunmen at his home in Jamaica on September 11, 1987. He was 42. In 2012, the governing People's National Party, which Tosh supported, awarded him Jamaica's great honour, the Order of Merit.
